FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHRIST CHURCH DEFIES DENOMINATIONAL DECLINE - LAUNCHES EXPANSION PROJECT IN ITS 52ND YEAR
December 18, 2017 - MEQUON
Christ Church in Mequon, known up and down the I-43 corridor for their Bethlehem Experience, concerts, and giant slide out front, breaks ground on a major renovation and expansion of their facility in spring of 2018. The project is expected to take about sixteen months. Founded in 1966, Christ Church combines biblically-sound relevant teaching, technology, and creativity to impact Milwaukee’s North Shore. Their continual growth is a refreshing trend in a nation where many other congregations are showing a decline.
Christ Church’s mission is to lift lives, elevate Christ, and be a church for those not here yet. With the worship room at 70-80% capacity on Sunday mornings, and administration space recently renovated into additional children’s ministry space, church leaders approved the project in support of this mission. Senior Pastor Bob Suhr believes that Christ Church must upgrade facilities to reach more people, remain relevant, and continue serving the ever-changing needs of the community.
The project will more than double the size of the current facility, adding two additional worship venues for Sunday mornings, to serve up to 2,000-3,000 worshipers each week. A spacious Atrium will provide soft spaces for conversation, a new café for community-building, interactive technology to support engagement, and lots of room for the church family to gather at once.
A comfortable worship and hang-out space will serve middle and high schoolers, along with two levels of camp-themed children’s ministry space for birth to 5th graders. The expansion also includes several adult gathering rooms, hospitality spaces, and collaboration areas.
Lastly, a beautiful 150-seat chapel offers an appropriate and flexible space for Traditions Worship, weddings, funerals, and adult teaching. Outside architecture and landscaping will fully utilize and celebrate the beautiful marshland that surrounds the facility.
Ministry leaders are ready and committed to keeping all programs thriving, with excellence, throughout the construction period.
Concord Development Company will be the Project Manager on the construction which is being designed by architects Uihlein Wilson Ramlow Stein.
